This week I was tasked with designing a website and then discussing it! :)
The website that I decided to design was one that follows my interest of old school video games. I'm a major fan of games from obsolete consoles especially from the Super Nintendo. With this though, I decided the best way to incorporate this was to make a site that informs others of my favorite games on several older consoles, gives my review and then links them to an ebay search for the game/console to play it.
Target Audience
The target audience are going to be avid gamers, mainly teens to young adults who may not have even tried any of the consoles that the games discussed are on. The reason I'm aiming towards them is the site wants to inform them of games that are of high quality and fun that they would not have tried before, giving them the same enjoyment that I had experienced while playing them. These teens would be still in school or just out and working part time, so they would have some disposable income. Majority of them would be male, as majority of gamers tend to be male.
The next people that would be target audiences would be young adults to older males, that enjoy old games. These people may still already own the consoles used to play the games I will be talking about, therefore making it easier for them to play the said games. They would also have a higher income than the younger audience.
Site Map
Due to the target audience being mainly gamers, they expect the website be easy to use and fast to navigate though. This audience is considered very technically savvy and won't wait around to either find what they are looking for or for the site to load fully. With this taken into mind, I made it possible to get to any page in the site within one click. This will be done through a global navigation bar, this will be located at the top of the page, just below the site banner. It's placed here to be easily found and to conform to how a lot of other sites have their navigation bar. The sites colour scheme will gather it's design from the old Super Nintendo video game console. The site will be grey with black writing and the navigational links will all have different colours. Them being, red, green, blue and yellow to mimic the colours of the buttons on a Super Nintendo Control. The site will use paid adverts to get revenue and these will be displayed on both sides of the site on every page. The main content areas of the pages will contain a header, the text and several pictures of said game or console depending on the page you are viewing. The navigation will also be hierarchical and each page will have a link at the bottom of the page (except for the home page) to an ebay search of what they were looking at.
Wireframes
Below is a list of accepted terms and various terms that may be used to help optimize finding the site when searching with the use of a search engine. Various games are called different things by different countries and are also nick named, this has been catered for, as well as names which are acronyms.
